Learning at Preschool

Our child has an uninterrupted capability to develop various life skills in kindergarten. These skills include physical development, social, emotional, language and literacy, and thinking (cognitive) skills. When we enroll our child in kindergarten, we are analytical about the typical kindergarten curriculum. We as parents need to be sure how we can aptly groom our child. Attain proper knowledge about the kindergarten curriculum to identify how we can help our child reach important learning milestones at home.

• Letters and Sounds When our child steps out of kindergarten, they are able to read and write all the alphabets (both uppercase and lowercase). They can identify their own first name and write it out, along with other letters and meaningful words like Mother, Father among many more. They develop a connection between letters and sounds, and know how to pronounce words like is, on, the, at, of and so on with their use in the sentence.

• Numbers and Counting Our children as beginners will learn to recognize, write, order, and count objects. They will also learn addition and subtraction. This focus on addition and subtraction of numbers continues till second grade. At home ask the child to count objects or play addition and subtraction games with objects. It will make their learning easier as they see numbers around them.

• Shapes, Colors and Objects In play school children learn about the names of colours, basic shapes, and parts of their body. At home we can play games with our kids linked with colour, shapes and objects by asking them to ‘Draw a Shape’ and take turns with them in drawing geometrical figures.

• Time and Seasons At this early age, children learn the basic concepts of time and seasons. They can identify the time of everyday events. At 7:00 AM they must wake up to go to school, and have to eat dinner at 8:00 p.m. They may not fully grasp the concept of time, but at least they will be able to have the basic knowledge. At home parents can reiterate the concept of time, by regularly examining the clock during routine activities. Use and explain words like morning, noon, night, yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

• Writing Skills In preschool our children will be able to develop their writing skills. Provide numerous writing materials, like different kinds of paper and pencils, markers and crayons so that our child may take interest in writing as well as learn writing skills with continuous practice.

• Socializing and Sharing Skills It is very important to developing social skills in our child before admitting them in kindergarten. Youngsters will learn how to share and cooperate, work together, take turns, participate in group activities, follow simple directions, and communicate wants and needs with other peers and elders. When children are alone or without their parents nearby, they may start interacting with teachers or with other youngsters for help and play. They have to speak up for themselves. At home as well we can teach our young ones to share their belongings or to play and interact with other kid
