Importance of Reading Books for Kids

Reading skills are important to  be successful in school, career and life in general. It will be beneficial when a child starts reading books at an earlier age. Here are some advantages which a child will gain by reading regularly.

1.To Prepare for Academic Success Reading books can help both parent and children to communicate with each other, the more they read, the stronger their bonding. This way strong language skills are already developed when they reach kindergarten. The better prepared they are to begin to read, and the better they read, the more likely they will graduate from high school. Their vocabulary, fluency, phonemic awareness, phonics, reading comprehension will develop and improve rapidly. Your child will encounter all these skills in elementary school and beyond, but you can nurture these skills from the time when they are quite young.

3.Cognitive Development  The emergence of the ability to think and grasp ideas both abstract and concrete is their cognitive development. By reading with them picture books or small stories you contribute by making them enabled to seek information or recreation in print. The construction of thought processes, including memory, problem solving, learning prowess and decision-making, from childhood to adulthood is a result of reading. It determines how a child copes with challenges as well as how they perform any activity like information processing, intelligence, reasoning, language development, and memory.

4.Innovative Ideas & Creativity Reading as an imaginative activity can open doors to all kinds of new worlds for your child. By reading books they can imagine and find new ideas and innovative techniques to explore their own minds to discover people, places, times, and events beyond their own experiences.

5.Increased Concentration & Discipline Continuous reading and making it as habit will increase concentration power and discipline in children. Very young children rarely sit still for long, and it’s often difficult to get them to focus. Yet when you introduce regular reading to your children, you may start to observe a change in their behaviour. Regular reading will lead to self-discipline, a longer attention span, and better memory. All these skills will be very helpful when your child enters school.

Children love to learn the sounds of languages before they even notice the existence of words on a page. It helps them develop language, listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. Reading habits may increase all the above skills and qualities for future growth.
